Belmond is creating an entirely new luxury experience with the acquisition of the Belmond Las Casitas in Colca Canyon and the launch of South America’s first sleeper train, the Belmond Andean Explorer in Peru.

The Belmond Andean Explorer departed on its maiden voyage in early May, traveling from Cusco to Arequipa, a UNESCO World Heritage site, on a two-night journey. Guests travel in elegant style, while experiencing the culinary creations of Executive Chef, Diego Munoz, prepared with Peru’s natural bounty.

Traveling the Belmond Andean Explorer provides individuals with the unique opportunity to view some of the most beautiful scenery and landscapes in the world, from stately lakes and snow-capped mountains to herds indigenous wildlife that roam the high plains.

The train travels to Lake Titicaca and after passengers disembark at their destination, they have the option of booking a private tour of the floating islands on the lake. Legend says the lake is the birthplace of the sun and the Uro people constructed their reed islands, that could be moved at will, for protection against hostile neighbors in the distant past.

The body of water is the highest navigable lake in the world and home to a variety of wildlife that’s found nowhere else. Many of the species have been classified as endangered, providing travelers with the unique opportunity to view and photograph rare wildlife.

Belmond Las Casitas

The acquisition of the Belmond Las Casitas offers guests the ultimate retreat that can be reached via the Belmond Andean Explorer. The retreat features 20 lavishly appointed and secluded bungalows, a spa, bar and restaurant, with cuisine prepared from the establishment’s organic garden. Set among the serenity of Colca Canyon, the getaway was designed to blend with the natural environment.

The retreat offers endless opportunities for those who enjoy the outdoors and adventure. Guests can explore the countryside by horseback, bike to local towns, or hike the surrounding trails. Individuals can fish the trout pools, take a stroll through the bio-garden, and view condors in their native environment.

The acquisition of the Belmond La Casitas and the Belmond Andean Explorer provides individuals with the opportunity to enjoy an exclusive adventure spanning ancient lands and exotic cultures. Elegant travel and sophisticated accommodations combine with the natural beauty and majesty of Peru for one of the most unique travel experiences in the world.
