Few things in this world are as cosy and comforting as a cup of hot chocolate. The Sukothai Bangkok takes it to the next level.
It’s been almost 25 years since Swiss Chocolatier, Chef Laurent Ganguillet, launched The Sukhothai’s first Chocolate Buffet. This unique social ad dining event had enough time to grow and evolve over the ears, but some things remained unchanged – the focus is still on chocolate in all its great variety.

Each week an incredible range of 20 different chocolates is featured on the Signature “Liquid Chocolate Trolley”. The current selection includes Valrhona’s “Mariage de Grands Crus” Abinao, a robust African blend that is 85% cocoa with a powerful, lingering aftertaste, Valrhona’s Araguani, a dark Venezuelan couverture, is a 72% cocoa blend of Criollos and Trinitarios beans, the aromatic and slightly fruity Manjari from Madagascar, Tainori, Caraibes, Dark Orange and Jivara, known as the “Grand Cru” of milk chocolate and many others. And then the chocolate is melted with a drop of milk in front of the guest eyes to turn into a cup of heavenly, hot pleasure potion.

Chef Laurent views chocolate as a noble product that must be treated with respect and he has formed his own theory that there is one kind of chocolate for every moment: “whatever your mood is, there is a chocolate for it”. Chocolate is a source of happiness, as he demonstrates when it comes to blending “Liquid Chocolates”. “I can match the flavour to the guests’ personalities,” he says. “I talk to them, find out things about them, and then blend a chocolate to match their mood and character. Most important is to simply bring a smile to their face.

And if you’re not in too sweet of a mood, a selection of savoury treats such as smoked salmon croissants, sushi, cold cuts sandwiches, fresh and fried spring rolls and others is thrown in to keep the balance intact. The Sukothai is also one of the few places in Bangkok where the guests can try Canneles – a fine treats originally from Bordeaux, France.
