Thailand is famous for its sweet treats and if you haven’t tried the desserts wrapped in banana leaves you are in for a treat! You can find them in most all local markets or made fresh daily by local street vendors; but have you ever seen them in international fashion shows?
Hermes has found inspiration in these sweet little banana leaf wrapped desserts and designed a purse resembling these desserts.
Banana leaves have long been used regularly as packing material for foods and have been featured in many common local snacks, such as Khao Niew Sangkaya (egg custard and sticky rice), Khao Tom Mad (banana and sticky rice) and so on. That’s why people find it interesting to see how designers have taken inspiration from an otherwise ordinary source and transformed it into a glamorous and classy purse.
This purse better known as a clutch is identified to be in Hermes last year’s collection. It has an eye-catching and unique design and has made a bold statement on the runway. But this is not the first time that luxury brands get inspired by Thai culture and tradition. Judith Leiber has also brought Thai culture into a dazzling collection of 16 beautiful-crafted handbags that represent everything from Thai animals to Thai patterns. Check out this article here
