– Words by Maciek Klimowicz –
The mind controls the body, and the mind is controlled – amongst other things – by sound. If in doubt, try not to bit out the rhythm when listening to your favorite tune. But the connection between sounds, mind and body goes beyond dancing. If applied correctly it can have relaxing and even healing properties. Don’t take out word for it, see, and hear, for yourself at Opium Spa & Wellness at The Siam Bangkok.
Currently in residence at Opium Spa & Wellness is Martha Collard – a coach, facilitator and expert in deep relaxation to the sound of meditation gongs. Having practiced yoga since 1989, Martha is experienced in a number of modalities ranging from NLP to Vipassana, from Reiki to Transcendental Meditation but maybe the most interesting is her signature Gong Therapy.
This deeply relaxing meditation utilizes the sound of gongs – of which Martha owns the largest private collection in Asia – to induce a state of spontaneous meditation to facilitate the movement of positive life force throughout the body. This not only has the power of creating a sense of connectedness and peace in the listeners but can have a variety of positive effects on the listener’s physique. The vibrations eliminate tension, stimulate the circulation and glandular systems and regenerate the parasympathetic nervous system.
“Our bodies are largely made of water and sounds travels through water faster than then through air. The sound of the gong penetrates through the body and when it does that, good things happen,” explains Martha.
Martha will reside at the Siam until February 23 where she offers a variety of private and group sessions.
