A tantalizing trilogy between artists at P. Tendercool.
Set in at a vintage New York meatpacking house style gallery near the Chao-Praya river, PT-Gallery is transformed by an interdisciplinary installation which is both a tribute to nature and a reflection on simplicity.
French artist Jean-Louis Dulaar, an artistic nomad, searches and researches, tries and errors, samples and fuses, boils and tempers all nature’s offerings with scientific dedication and botanical perseverance. His relentless experiments with leaves, roots, barks, and flowers, give birth to the most mesmerizing colours, a true plethora of hues.
Impressed by the rawness, age and bold brutalism of the ancient wood collected by Stephanie Grusenmeyer and Pieter Compernol, founders of P. Tendercool, Jean-Louis, who for the past 35 years exhibited in New York, Paris, Johannesburg and countless other cities, proposed to create his first ever installation in Asia: a confrontation of purposely created paintings, sketches, and cahiers excerpts, photos-de-route, diaries and video’s, with ancient slabs of the rarest hardwoods.
He challenged his friend and former president of the Matisse Museum Eric Poisson, a compatriot with l’esprit de l’art, to create light-sculptures inspired by his Christie’s appraised collection, using items collected during decades of travels.
